Meridian offers lyophilization services that transform your molecular master mixes into a bead stable at room temperature. The beads provide convenient, ready-to-use reagents for a single assay. The use of lyo beads avoids many of the challenges that assay developers face, especially around stabilization and reagent incorporation into microfluidic cartridges and hand-held point of care (POC) readers.
Bead-based lyophilization offers a fast, and cost-effective method for preserving and stabilizing samples for long-term storage and use. Main advantages include:
Removes potential to cross-contaminate a central stock, reduces degradation through freeze-thaw cycles.
Beads can accommodate a range of precise sample volumes and sizes, making them suitable for a variety of applications such as microfluidic cartridges and POC devices.
Eliminates expensive cold chain shipping methods or refrigeration. Increases assay shelf-life, reducing scrap and waste.
PROJECT SCOPE Our production batches range from as little as 5,000 beads for a pilot, up to as many as 10,000,000 beads per month, using multiple freeze dryers and bead dispensing automated state-of-the-art stations. Reagents can be dispensed in volumes from 5 µ L up to 200 µ L, with a variability of <3% and can be packaged into standard tubes, vials, plates and custom cartridges with precision monitoring and extensive process control. The beads weight and volume, retain long-term stability at ambient temperature and do not require expensive cold chain shipping or refrigeration during storage and so help to minimize environmental impact.

READY-TO-USE MIXES AVAILABLE FOR LYOPHILIZATION Meridian has decades of experience working with extensive qPCR, RT-qPCR and LAMP assay reagents, we also offer lyo-ready enzymes, buffers and master mixes. Each mix requires unique lyophilization settings, which depend on the components of the formula, with a primary (sublimation) drying cycle under vacuum, that removes approximately 95% of the water, followed by a secondary (desorption) drying cycle at a higher temperature, to remove the remaining water molecules that we will optimize for each formulation.
