Molecular and serological tests each present unique advantages in the detection of STD. While some are better detected through molecular assays, others exhibit superior performance with immunoassays. Molecular Solutions:
Meridian’s ready-to-use qPCR and RT-qPCR master mixes have been developed for fast cycling from inhibitor-rich clinical specimens such as blood, urine and saliva. A combination of the latest advances in buffer chemistry and PCR enhancers, in conjunction with an antibody- mediated hot start DNA polymerase promote rapid, consistently accurate detection of the intended targets, even with multiplex qPCR assays. The mixes can be used as wet mixes or dried by lyophilization or air-drying, there are several advantages to this, including room temperature shipping and storage, extended shelf-life, and increased flexibility in the sample volume.

HPV DNA Test:
Lyo-Ready Genotyping Direct qPCR Urine Mix, 4x (MDX158) Meridian’s Lyo-Ready Genotyping Direct qPCR Urine is a 4x inhibitor-resistant mix designed for highly specific and sensitive amplification for genotyping sequence variants, even in the presence of PCR inhibitors found in crude urine samples, to give exceptional cluster resolution with clear allele discrimination, even with challenging SNP targets. Furthermore, it can be used in a liquid or lyophilized format to create ambient-temperature stable assays, making it ideal for point-of-care (POC) devices.
Two high-risk strains of HPV cause more than 70% of cervical cancers but can be treated if detected early enough. The World Health Organization recommends DNA-based genotyping testing for HPV as the primary screening method to identify women who have or are at risk of cervical pre-cancer. Typically, the test screens for fourteen different HPV types, including HPV type 16 and HPV type 18.
