Enterovirus Over 71 different serotypes exist and are categorized into four main groups: polioviruses, coxsackie A viruses, coxsackie B viruses, and echoviruses. Most recently they are named using consecutive numbers: EV68, EV69, EV70, EV71, etc. Enteroviruses affect millions of people worldwide each year with approximately 75% of enterovirus infections occurring in children under 15 years of age. Many infections are self-limiting but they can be life-threatening.
