Herpes Virus Type 6 (HHV-6) A member of the herpes virus family, HHV-6B primary infection is the cause of the common childhood illness exanthem subitum (also known as roseola infantum or sixth disease). Roseola infantum is a common, mild virus that can cause a temperature and rash in babies and young children. It usually lasts about 3-5 days and generally does not need medical treatment.
